Uplifting the poor of India is our main focus, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed his constituency and stressed that the main focus of the Centre was figuring out how to make the 'poor' population of India as 'self reliant' and teaching them life saving skills.

Taking a swing at the Congress Party, Prime Minister Modi said that there were those who have been chanting for 60 years that they will work for the development of the poor but had done nothing.

He stressed on how important it was for the poor to be self reliant and teach them certain skills that can help them in bettering their lives.

"It is important to teach the poor certain skills that can change the way they live. Every one, no matter their status, wants his or her child to lead a life of dignity," Prime Minister Modi said.

Prime Minister Modi, who is on a one-day trip to Varanasi, will later attend a function organized by the Rickshaw Sangh and distribute a package to 602 families under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.

He will distribute 501 paddle rickshaws and 101 e-rickshaws. In addition to this, he will distribute 1000 solar lanterns to rickshaw, pushcart and street vendors.

Later, the Prime Minister will launch the Integrated Power Development Scheme at a public meeting in the DLW Grounds. He will also lay the foundation stone for some infrastructure projects.

He will dedicate the Trauma Centre, Banaras Hindu University, to the nation and also inaugurate a passenger reservation facility at Ramnagar Post Office.
