Fresh tremors were felt in Siliguri while the polling of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) was being conducted.

The aftershock was felt on Sunday, a day after the massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Nepal and north India.

"When we went to give vote yesterday, slight tremors were felt around 11:30 A.M. Everybody was in a worried state and came running out of their houses. We are all terrified because of the earthquake and are not able to go back into our homes," said Pushpa de Roy, a local of Siliguri.

"There has been a lot of damage here due to the earthquake. The employees who work in this area have also faced trouble and have hurt themselves. I hope now nothing bad will happen here," said Dibakar, another local.

The death toll from the devastating earthquake, which hit Nepal and northern parts of India on Saturday, has climbed over 2,100 even as the rescue efforts intensified in search of the survivors.

Earlier on Sunday, fresh tremors were felt across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam after an earthquake of 6.7 magnitude hit the east of Kathmandu.

The massive earthquake and the aftershocks left behind a trail of death and destruction in Nepal's capital Kathmandu as well as parts of India.
