Nepal PM Dahal holds parleys with leaders of Madhesi parties

Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday held formal talks with the top leaders of Madhesi parties and expressed his government readiness to address their demands.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba also took part in the tripartite meeting held at Dahal's office in Singhadarbar , reports the Himalayan Times.

Dahal, who was elected Nepal's 36th Prime Minister on Wednesday, assumed his office yesterday evening.

Prior to the prime ministerial election, Dahal's Communist Party of Nepal- Maoist Centre (CPN-MC), the alliance of Nepali Congress had forged a three-point agreement to meet the Madhesi parties' demand while securing their support to him.

As per reports, the Cabinet will today formally decide to announce those killed in the protests in Tarai-Madhes region as martyrs, provide a package to their families and bear expenses for treatment of those injured on the line of the three-point agreement.

During the meeting, amendment of Constitution as pointed out by the Madhesi parties were also discussed.

Leaders including Upendra Yadav of Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal, Mahantha Thakur of Tarai Madhes Democratic Party, Laxman Lal Karna of Sadbhawana Party and Raj Kishor Yadav of Madhesi Janadhikari Forum-Republican present in the meeting.
