Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) newly elected chief has ruled out any major changes in the cricket team and has also backed Captain Misbahul Haq despite a dismal performance by the Pakistan team in the Test Series in Sri Lanka.

Shaharyar Khan, who was elected unopposed as PCB's Chairman on Monday, said that the loss suffered by Pakistan was a "setback" but not a disaster and acknowledged that there was room for improvement, reported The Express Tribune.

He dispensed doubts about major rejig in the team by underscoring the need to have a "consistency" in all cricketing matters and said that there would be no changes in the team or team management.

The team had received flak for a dismal 105-run defeat which consigned Pakistan to a 2-0 series loss on Monday and brought them down from third to sixth position in the Test rankings.

Besides his team's performance, Misbah also came under attack for his poor performance. With just 67 runs in four innings to his credit, many former players demanded that he must be sacked.

However, Khan has affirmed that Misbah will continue to hold the position till the World Cup next year as decided by his predecessor, Najam Sethi.

He also added that he hoped international cricket would return to Pakistan after the security situation improves in the nation.

The 80-year-old has previously held the position of the Chairman between 2003 and 2006 and has played an important role in reviving India-Pakistan cricketing ties in 1999. He also acted as the manager of the Pakistan cricket team during its first tour to India since 1987.
