After becoming the first opposition candidate to win Nigeria presidential election, former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to take on Boko Haram, the extremist group who abducted 270 Nigerian girls last April and recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS).
Buhari assured countrymen in Nigeria's capital city of Abuja that the terror group will soon know the strength of "our collective will and commitment to rid this nation of terror and to bring back peace and normalcy to all the affected areas," reported Fox News.
"We shall spare no effort until we defeat terrorism," he said.
The leader defeated incumbent Goodluck Jonathan in March 28 presidential election. He had previously lost three presidential elections.
Jonathan's People's Democratic Party (PDP) had ruled the country since 1999 after military rule was replaced by democracy. This election marked the first peaceful transfer of power between civilian leaders in Nigeria's history.
