A corporate attorney has said that AEG Live LLC did not conduct any background checks on Dr Conrad Murray, who has been convicted of killing Michael Jackson.

Jurors were told by AEG Live General Counsel Shawn Trell that no legal or financial checks were done involving Murray or anyone else who worked as an independent contractor on the 'This Is It' shows, Fox News reported.

He said that a background check would have been appropriate for people working in financial roles but not tour personnel who weren't employees of AEG.

Michael's mother Katherine has sued AEG claiming that it failed to properly investigate Murray, who was deep in debt when he agreed to become Michael's tour physician in 2009 for 150,000 dollars-a-month.

Status of Murray's employment is a central issue in the case, as the Jackson matriarch Katherine's lawyers contend that he had been hired by AEG, but the company has been in denial about hiring them and notes that Michael died before signing the doctor's contract.

Trell also acknowledged that numerous people in the company knew of concerns that Michael's health had been in decline.
