Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that there is no specific evidence about Moscow's 'interference in U.S. presidential election and the allegations are just based on assumptions.

Speaking about alleged Russian interference in the U.S. election during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017 on Friday, President Putin questioned the independency of the Russia probe, saying that there's nothing completely independent in the world and personnel appointments in U.S. special services prove that.

Mocking the allegations that there are Russian hackers' fingerprints in the case of the DNC account cyber attack, Sputnik news agency quoted Putin as saying, "Fingerprints of what exactly? Fingerprints of snouts and horse hooves? Even IP addresses could easily be faked,"

He said that the Democrats should have simply agreed that they had failed to attract voters.

Putin's clarification comes at a time when the intelligence agencies in the U.S. believe that Russia used disinformation, data thefts, leaks, and social media trolls in an effort to give an advantage to Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton in 2016 Presidential elections.

On October 7, 2016, the U.S. National Intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security jointly said that Russia hacked the Democratic National Committee (DNC) servers and Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's personal email account and leaked their documents to WikiLeaks.
