Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Thursday said the Monsoon Session of the Parliament should not be extended as most of the MPs would like to participate in the Independence Day celebrations in their respective constituencies.
"I have no such information. Day after tomorrow is August 15... Most of the members (of Parliament) would like to go their constituencies and participate in Independence Day celebrations," Tiwari told ANI
"There is no point in extending this session. When this proposal comes to us, then we will think about it," he added.
A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) has been convened today amid indications that it may convene a short session of Parliament for passage of key bills.
The ongoing Monsoon Session of the Parliament, which has been rocked by relentless opposition protests, concludes today.
The government had earlier rejected the Congress party's demand for the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over the Lalit Modi controversy.
