In what has been dubbed as a once in a million chance to boost cricket in New Zealand, the country's cricket board is reportedly expected to get a 20 million dollar bonus from next year's World Cup.

It is understood that New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has agreed to split profits with Cricket Australia in a one third New Zealand-by-two thirds Australia agreement that could see the NZC pocket an estimated 20 million dollars.

The added multi-million-dollar injection would come on top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) dividend paid out to the 10 member countries for each ICC event, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The bonus would also come ahead of bumper years for NZC with a number of tours to be announced in coming weeks.

The board is in the final stages of signing-off bilateral agreements with the other nine member countries of the ICC for tours through until 2023, which are expected to include tours to New Zealand by the big three -India, Australia and England, as such tours bring many million dollars' worth of broadcasting rights.

NZC chief executive David White said that he could not release specifics on expected tours to our shores but they would see more international cricket in New Zealand than they have done in the past, adding that the big countries would be touring with significant test programmes.

White said that as finances had been tough for the organisation for a number of years, the Cricket World Cup provided the opportunity to break free from the boom-bust cycle.

White added that this is a once in a generation opportunity for NZC to generate surpluses and reserves to stake the financial security of cricket.
