The US President Barack Obama has added himself to the long list of those remembering beloved actor Leonard Nimoy by publicly noting his death.

The 53-year-old President took it to his Twitter page to say "Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy," Deadline.com reported.

Besides the tweet, the White House also released a long statement from Obama stating that Nimoy was a lifelong lover of the arts and humanities, a supporter of the sciences, generous with his talent and his time.

It added that Nimoy was Spock, the cool, logical, big-eared and level-headed, the center of 'Star Trek's' optimistic, inclusive vision of humanity's future. "I loved Spock."

The statement noted that in 2007, Obam had the chance to meet Nimoy in person and it was only logical to greet him with the Vulcan salute, the universal sign for "Live long and prosper." After 83 years on this planet and on his visits to many others, it is clear Nimoy did just that.

Obama added that he and his wife Michelle join Nimoy's family, friends and countless fans who miss him so dearly today.
