US President Barack Obama has reportedly announced that Americans need to be assured that his administration would continue to support Net Neutrality.

Recently, the federal court struck down a FCC ruling meant to prevent an Internet service provider from prioritizing some website traffic over others, which would make people pay money for access to particular sites.

According to The Verge, Obama said that his own election campaign was empowered by a free and open Internet and the ability for citizens to engage and create and find new ways and new tools to mobilize themselves.

While he fell short of criticisng the court's decision, Obama said that the ruling needed to be respected, and the FCC has the authority to regulate the space, adding that the FCC and its chairman, Tom Wheeler, were looking at options that could help to vindicate the notion of a free and open Internet.

The President further stressed that he can't meddle in the decision-making of the FCC, the report added.
