The Mumbai Police have arrested one person in connection with murder case of anchor Arpita Tiwari and sent him to police custody till January 20.

The accused, identified as Amit Hazara, on Monday, was produced before the court, which sent him to police custody.

Arpita's body was found on the second floor of a building in Malad's Malwani area on December 11. The death was initially registered as a case of an accident.

The police said Hazara had been in a relationship with Arpita, and both had plans of marrying each other.

"We have arrested one suspect in connection with the case and produced him before the court today. He was arrested on reasonable leads and some scientific tests. An investigation is underway," Deepak Deoraj, PRO, Mumbai Police, told ANI.

Meanwhile, Shweta Tiwari, Arpita's sister, said they suspected the involvement of others too in the alleged murder.

"We are happy that Mumbai Police have arrested Amit Hazra. But it has not ended here because we have been saying this since the beginning that there are others also involved. We hope that they will be arrested soon," she added.

The Malwani police have initially registered the matter as an accidental death case but when Arpita's family raised suspicions of foul play, a case of murder was filed.
