Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections in October, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said here on Sunday that one party rule would change the state's future.

"Maharashtra needs development, the unemployed needs employment, the infrastructure also needs to be developed that's why for development and for one party rule the people of Maharashtra will support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), one party rule will change the future of Maharashtra and I am sure that it will be the BJP only," said Gadkari.

"We will surely make a strong government. So far Maharashtra has experienced alliance politics. Now as there is one party government in Delhi which is working effectively, similarly Maharashtra will also get one party government which will work effectively and we will definitely work towards the development of Maharashtra," Gadkari added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday ended its 25-year-old alliance with the Shiv Sena and decided to contest the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections with smaller allied parties.

Along with the BJP-Shiv Sena break up, another alliance partner- the NCP and Congress- also ended their alliance over dispute on the allocation of seats in the state.

The Union Cabinet, meanwhile, gave its nod for imposition of President's rule in the state after Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan submitted his resignation.

All the four major parties, the BJP, Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP will now contest elections individually in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra will go to polls on October 15 while the counting of votes will take place on October 18. There are 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra.
