One person has been killed and two others injured in a shooting incident near a polling location in Azusa near Los Angeles.
The initial shooting was followed by a gun battle with responding police officers at the scene near the Memorial Park North Recreation Center, where voters were spooked by a volley of shots, reports the CNN.
A female suspect is being looked out by the police and they are also trying to determine if there is also a male suspect
Acting Azusa Police Chief Steve Hunt has said that multiple victims on the residential side of the street were found by the police across the polling place. Three people were taken to a hospital, where one victim died.
At least three tactical teams were on the street outside the house, where one or both suspects might have tried to hide during the gunfight with police.
Authorities said that it wasn't immediately clear whether the shootings were related to Tuesday's elections and added that two schools were on lockdown and the polling centers, along with another nearby, both were "impacted."
Witnesses claimed that the shots were not fired inside the polling station.
One voter said that he was inside when a bunch of shots were heard by him and people from outside starting to run in before officials locked the doors.
"Massive shooting is happening and the police have told us to stay indoors. We are currently on lock down," the voter said.
According to a woman, no one was being allowed by the officials to leave the building but people were still being allowed to vote while they waited.
"Los Angeles County Registrar Dean Logan in a tweet said, "Voters should avoid the area and, if necessary, cast a ballot at an alternate polling location.
