The lawyer for Dr Shakil Afridi, who helped the United States track down al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, has fled Pakistan after receiving threats from militants.

Lawyer Samiullah Afridi left the country after militants threatened to blow up his car and kill his family, a relative said.

The relative said that the family could not disclose the country to which Afridi had escaped to due to security threats to his life.

According to Dawn News, the relative added that the militants had warned him to stop pleading the case or else he and his family would face the consequences.

Samiullah is the second member of the legal team to flee following militant threats.
