American cinematographer Matthew Libatique has been charged and arrested on grounds of assault while he was attending a film festival in Poland.
Libatique, who was the cinematographer for Lady Gaga-Bradley Cooper-starrer 'A Star Is Born', was reportedly charged with assault after an altercation with the police and paramedics at Bydgoszcz city.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, an ambulance was brought in for the Oscar-nominated cinematographer, visibly inebriated, who was said to have been seen "staggering and an altercation occurred."
During the altercation, which reportedly took place on Tuesday, Polish media reported that one of the paramedics who had arrived to treat Libatique sustained injuries and suffered a broken tooth.
The filmmaker is slated to appear in court on Thursday and, if convicted, could face a prison sentence of up to three years under Polish law.
"Mr. Libatique was involved in an alleged incident that led to his detention and is being held on a potential charge of assaulting a police officer and a paramedic here in Bydgoszcz. This is now a legal matter that the EnergaCamerimage Festival is not in a position to discuss. We can make no further comments at this time," Kazimierz Suwala, festival office manager for Camerimage, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Libatique, whose last project was 'A Star Is Born', was nominated for an Academy Award in 2010 for his work in on Darren Aronofksy's 'Black Swan'.
