Alfonso Cuaron took hom his second Oscar for the night when he won the best director prize at the Academy Awards.
He beat Adam McKay for 'Vice,' Paweł Pawlikowski for 'Cold War,' Yorgos Lanthimos for 'The Favourite' and Spike Lee for 'BlacKkKlansman' in the category., revealed The Hollywood Reporter.
This is the second-ever directing Oscar for Cuaron, who previously won for 2014's 'Gravity.'
Taking the stage, the director said, "Gracias. Gracias. Gracias!"
Cuaron thanked his actresses, his producers, executives at Netflix and others. He went on to say, "I want to thank the Academy for recognizing a film centered around an indigenous woman, one of the 70 million domestic workers around the world ... historically relegated at the backgroung of the cinema."
He also thanked his family and Mexico in Spanish.
According to the Academy Awards, it is the fourth Oscar for Cuarón and his second win tonight.
