The race to the Oscars has begun and some definite names have started to cement their place in the minds of the selectors.
The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has unveiled the list of contenders for next year's original song category, with 70 films making to the list.
To be eligible, a song must contain both words and music and be specifically written for a film released this year.
A ballad from the movie 'Beauty and the Beast' titled 'How Does A Moment Last Forever' and 'Remember Me' from animated movie 'Coco' have been shortlisted for consideration.
But the biggest surprise for India comes in the form of 'Pullimurugan', whose two songs 'Kaadanayum Kaalchilambe' and 'Maanathe Maarikurumbe' are in the list of 70 songs.
The songs composed by Gopi Sunder from the Mohanlal film are in the running for the 2018 Oscars.
These are the only songs from an Indian film to have made to the list, thereby making the achievement all the more sweeter.
