Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi today for the first time after taking charge in New Delhi, reiterated that his government is committed to the poor.
"This government is dedicated to poor. All the schemes that we have announced are related to the poor. You will be surprised to know that 32 lakh families of the nation used to get a pension of Rs 610 or 50, which was even less than their auto fare. After coming to power, we announced that nobody will get pension below Rs 1,000," said Prime Minister Modi while addressing a Booth Workers Sammelan here.
Asserting that his government has launched the 'Jan Dhan Yojana' so that the poor can take benefits from the banks, Prime Minister Modi said: "Look at their honesty; they opened up their bank accounts with Rs five-ten, even when they could open it with zero balance."
Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the importance of 'Swacch Bharat Abhiyan'.
"Cleanliness is our responsibility, and we must change our mindset. This is our 'Mother India'," he said.
Prime Minister Modi also thanked the people for supporting him.
"It is my first opportunity to meet the party workers after the polls. It is your hard work that I have got a chance to become a public representative. You all walked ahead with the mantra of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' and our nation is moving in the direction of creating its own place in the world," he said.
Prime Minister Modi said that he is witnessing the biggest change as the people of the country have formed a government with full majority.
"Whenever I meet any political leader of the world, he sees 125 crore people standing with me, I'm grateful to the people of the nation," he added.
