Australian chief selector John Inverarity is reportedly considering stepping down from the powerful position after his contract expires in June 30.

Australian cricket could see a major shake-up in its ranks if 70-year-old Inverarity, who is weighing up his future, decides not to renew his contract during the Cricket Australia (CA) board meeting on April 14.

According to News.com.au, it is not a surprise that Inverarity, who replaced controversial Andrew Hilditch in October 2011, would be considering pulling up stumps given that he is now 70 and is probably looking to spend more time with family and friends.

However, the report mentioned that his departure would represent a significant changing of the guard at a time when there is at last much-needed stability and success in Australian cricket and with a 50-over World Cup on home soil at the end of next summer.

Inverarity's reign will be remembered as one which pointed Australia in the right direction though it could be argued that coach Darren Lehmann and rejuvenated paceman Mitchell Johnson deserve more credit, the report added.
