Pakistani military has claimed that it was acting as a 'facilitator' in the current political crisis on the request of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government.

The Director General of the Inter Services Public Relations posted on Twitter verifying that the government had asked the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif to play the role of a facilitator in the ongoing crisis in the country.

According to the Dawn, interior minister Chaudhry Nisar said that the twitter update was shown to him before it was posted and was a proof of the government's standpoint.

Some government officials have reported that Nisar had proposed the idea of military acting as a facilitator.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that he had approved the meeting of General Raheel with Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) after Nisar received a phone call from the party chiefs requesting the conference.

However, PTI and PAT chiefs Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri denied the government's claims that they had requested the military to act as a facilitator.
