Senior Pakistan Army officers are carrying out a survey of areas surrounding Karachi's Benazir Bhutto International Airport following the June 8 terror attack.
The Pakistan Government and the army have reportedly ordered the setting up of pickets on roof tops of some buildings, so that the flight paths can be monitored more astutely. Sharprooters will be deployed in these pickets, according to reports.
Intelligence officials suggested in a statement that security posts must be established near the airport.
A senior security official said that by deploying sharpshooters on pickets, they would be able to target any hindrances from nearby areas during takeoff or landing.
The increased security measures at the airport and surrounding areas also include extra screening of passengers and their luggage, reports the Dawn.
Police are also expected to collect the particulars from people who reside under the flight path. They would submit affidavit to the police saying that they would be responsible for any militant activity from their location.
Number of persons to receive or see off any passenger has been restricted to one by the Civil Aviation Authority. The ban is expected to come into force by July 6.
