Parnell credits batting peers' 'mentality' for 'spirited knock' against Pak in first ODI

South African all-rounder Wayne Parnell has credited the mentality of some of the world's top batsmen in his team's dressing room for giving him the self-belief to be more confident out in the middle.

Although Parnell is a bowling all-rounder, his spirited career-best knock of 56 in the first ODI against Pakistan on Wednesday showed that he can be primed for the important all-rounder role within the team.

According to Sport24, Parnell said that he is drawing knowledge from his batting peers, adding that having a wealth of information in the change room is a good experience for a young player like him.

Parnell, who boasts two List A centuries and seven first-class half-centuries, further said that picking up key points from his seniors has helped him a lot and given him confidence in his batting as it is also a vital part for him, adding that he has been working hard on all aspects of his game.

According to Parnell, the determination to cement his place in the ODI squad has been one of the key the influences behind his current limited overs form following an intermittent ODI career since making his debut in 2009, which has often been hampered by injury and inconsistency.
