PCB says cannot 'force' umpire Rauf to go to Mumbai for IPL fixing questioning

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that it cannot force fixing accused umpire Asad Rauf to go to Mumbai to be questioned in the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting and spot-fixing scandal.

According to the Daily Times, Rauf was named as a 'wanted accused' in the charge sheet filed by the Mumbai Police on Saturday.

Stating that there is no mechanism available to 'convince' Rauf to go to Mumbai to face the charges in person, PCB legal advisor Tafazzul Rizvi said that it is because there is no extradition treaty between Pakistan and India, adding that as the matter is between Rauf, the Mumbai police, IPL and the ICC, the PCB cannot interfere in it.

The report mentioned that Rauf immediately left for Pakistan and was dropped by the ICC for the Champions Trophy in June after his name came up in the corruption scandal of the lucrative tournament this year, which also saw Indian pacer S.Sreesanth banned for life.

Rauf is also alleged to have placed bets through bookies on certain IPL matches he officiated and in return received 'gifts', including jewellery and clothing, although the umpire has denied the allegations against him, saying that he was dropped for the ICC's elite panel after the end of his contract.
