Peter Fonda's 'Easy Rider' bike may fetch $1m at auction

Peter Fonda's customized chopper that he rode in 1969 film 'Easy Rider' may fetch 1 million dollars at the auction in October, it has been reported.

The motorcycle was being sold by Michael Eisenberg, a California businessman who once co-owned a themed restaurant with the 74-year-old actor and Rider co-star Dennis Hopper, the BBC reported.

The "Captain America" Harley-Davidson, a panhead chopper with a chromed hard-tail frame, was accompanied by three letters of authenticity and "panhead" the name given to the bike's distinctive engine, while "hard-tail" refers to its lack of rear suspension.

Four motorcycles were created for the movie, but only one, the one used in the film's climactic crash scene, was known to have survived and was later restored by Fonda.

California auction house Profiles in History would run the 18 October sale.
