A scientist has created a mathematical recipe for the simplest trick - the flat loop.

Dr Pierre-Thomas Brun, of EPFL in Switzerland, said that elastic threads are everywhere in daily lives - from hair and textile yarns to DNA and undersea broadband cables.

He said that all of these threads twist and coil according to the same equations as the cowboy's lasso.

Dr Brun said that the physics just boils down to a few simple rules, asserting that the about 70 per cent of rope should be used in the loop, the BBC reported.

He said that then one should move their hands with a slow frequency - about two hertz.

Dr Brun added that then one should with each turn of the rope, roll it between their thumb and forefinger, to avoid accumulating twist.
