Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa here on Saturday and held discussions with him on issues of mutual interest to both sides.
This was the second meeting between the two leaders.
The Sri Lankan President had met Prime Minister Modi earlier in May this year when he arrived in New Delhi for the latter's swearing-in-ceremony.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Modi during his maiden speech at the United Nations General Assembly emphasized on close relations with India's neighbours.
"Our future is linked very closely with our neighbours. That is why from the very first day, we extended a hand of friendship to our neighbours," he said.
