PM Modi reviews Nepal earthquake situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has assured all help to earthquake-hit Nepal, held a review meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh and other top officials on Tuesday.

The government has decided to send union ministers Ananth Kumar, Radha Mohan Singh and J.P. Nadda to Bihar to take stock of the situation and co-ordinate the relief effort

"Ministers @AnanthKumar_BJP, Radha Mohan Singh ji and @JPNadda_bjp will go to Bihar to take stock of the situation and co-ordinate relief effort," the PMO said in another tweet.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had earlier on Sunday directed government officials to carry out relief work on a war footing. He has also asked all ministers and secretaries to set up camp in districts under their charge.

"All my honourable ministers will camp in the respective districts and secretaries, who are in charge of the area, will also camp," he said.

The chief minister has also asked local residents to be patient and alert.

In India, the death toll is being pegged at 72 people, with Bihar having the highest mortality rate of 58 and over 200 injured.

At least 4,352 bodies have reportedly been recovered in earthquake-hit Nepal.

There is an acute shortage of food, water, electricity and medicines in Nepal. Locals in Kathmandu and other adjoining areas are spending their nights out in the open over fears of another earthquake taking place.

Hundreds of people are still trapped under tonnes of rubble in Kathmandu and some of the worst-affected remote mountainous areas in that country.

India is doing everything possible to maximise the relief and minimise the tribulations faced by the neighbouring nation.

The calamity, one of the worst in over 80 years in Nepal, was followed by 55 aftershocks.
