PM Modi targets Robert Vadra with son-in-law remark

Without naming anyone, he compared Arun Jaitley and Robert Vadra at the centenary celebrations of former's father-in-law G L Dogra

While paying his tributes to late Congress leader Girdhari Lal Dogra on his centenary celebrations in Jammu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took a dig at Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra.

He said that despite being the son-in-law of the late Congress leader, Arun Jaitley held on to his own political beliefs and never used his father-in-law's clout.

"Dogra Sahab would have been a very good judge of people's abilities. And one example is the son-in-law he selected. There was no similarity in the political ideology of Dogra Sahab and Arun Jaitley. Otherwise we all know what embarrassment sons-in-law have become for their in-laws nowadays," he said at the leader's centenary celebrations, leaving the audience in splits. He didn't name Robert Vadra.

The Prime Minister said that there is no question of political untouchability and everyone who has worked for the nation, has to be respected.

"Earlier, I saw an exhibition on Dogra. What touched me most was the fact that in all of Girdhari Lal ji's photos, I never saw a single person from his family. It is a victory for Girdhari Lal Dogra ji that he inspired a line of leaders after him, he became a man who shaped a generation of leaders," he added.

He said the late leader worked for the country, irrespective of which political party of ideology he adhered to.

Modi also greeted Muslims on the eve of Eid. He then left for New Delhi.
