PM Modi taunts Chautala for wanting to take oath in jail

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday criticised former Haryana chief minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Om Prakash Chautala for saying that he will take oath in jail if his party wins the upcoming assembly polls.

"I haven't seen such a person who never says that he will appeal to the higher court and prove his innocence, but says that he will stay in jail and take oath," said the Prime Minister while addressing a rally here.

Chautala, who has been convicted in the Junior Basic Teachers (JBT) recruitment scam case, was in September asked by the Delhi High Court to surrender on or before October 17.

Last month, in a political rally in Jind, Haryana Chautala had slammed the Congress government for sending him to jail by implicating him in the JBT scam. He had even vowed to take oath in jail if his party won in the assembly polls.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi, who has been on a whirlwind tour of Haryana ahead of the Assembly polls, further appealed to rid the state from dynastic politics.

"In so many years has the Government given anything to Haryana? What is the Government for, to feed their own families? Today you have the opportunity to choose a Government which will work for you. If you want to save Haryana you have to do away with the dynastic politics here," added Prime Minister Modi.

"Do you want a Government to whom you have to bow or do you want a Government that comes at your doorstep," the Prime Minister asked, eliciting roaring cheers from the crowd.

The elections for the 90-member Haryana state assembly are scheduled to be held on October 15.
