During the 68th Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, announced the 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna' after stating that farmer suicide rate has increased tremendously.

"Why are our farmers committing suicide today? They take loans, fail to repay and then die. I want to introduce the 'Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna' and also the insurance of one lakh rupees for poor under the scheme", Modi announced.

Talking about the development in India, Modi said, "To take the nation forward 'Skill development', 'skilled India' is our mission. Skill development will be towards job creation and empowering the youth with skills".

"We must strengthen our manufacturing sector. We have the skill, therefore, I invite the world 'Come make in India'. You may sell anywhere but come and manufacture here, we have both 'skill and talent'", he added.

"Lal Bahadur Shastri had given the slogan 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' to us. Let us remind ourselves of that and get involved in the manufacturing sector with zero defects, without hurting the environment", said Modi.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister unfurled the flag in the central court of Red Fort, after inspecting the guard of honour.

After hoisting the National Flag from the ramparts of Red Fort, he began his addressal to the nation.

The Prime Minister also paid homage at the Rajghat before reaching the Red fort.
