Polling for 146 Panchayat Samitis and 22 Zila Parishads is taking place under full security arrangements here today.
More than 40 thousand police personnel have been deployed to ensure free and fair elections.
For the Zila Parishad, 760 candidates are trying their luck as 30 candidates have been elected unopposed. 5,786 candidates are contesting for Panchayat Samitis as 229 candidates have been elected unopposed.
In all, 1.10 crore rural voters would cast their votes at 19,350 voting centres across the state to elect their representatives. The counting of votes would take place on May 21.
