Former England wicketkeeper Matt Prior has backed axed Alastair Cook to stage a strong comeback in the upcoming Test series against West Indies, which is scheduled to commence after the conclusion of the World Cup.
Admitting that Cook is hugely gutted to be left out of the World Cup squad, Prior said that playing for England was not a God-given right, and one has to perform at a level where one is seen to be adding something to the team.
Prior further said that as a man of immense pride and stature, he would expect him (Cook) to come back strong in Test matches in the next few months, the Mirror reported.
Earlier, Cook was sacked after a string of poor performance and was replaced by Eoin Morgan at the helm.
Prior added that scoring runs at the top of the order were what Cook was about, and any disappointment he had felt recently would give him a renewed focus when he picks up the baton in the West Indies next month.
