Congress Party leader P L Punia on Tuesday urged the Centre and the Delhi state government to work together to curb the rise of dengue cases in the national capital region.
"The current scenario of dengue is an emergency-like situation. The central government along with the state government must work to provide relief to the patients," Punia told ANI.
"Instead of playing politics over the situation the government must intervene and try for better alternatives," he added.
Punia further described it as a very unfortunate scenario, that dengue patients were continually being denied admission to hospitals despite the state government giving assurances that no patient would be denied admission.
"The hospitals are denying admission to the patients. They are not releasing the number of deaths occurring due to the dengue. There is a stressed environment in Delhi and its nearby areas due to dengue," he added.
As per the August 28 advisory, of the Delhi Government's health department, no hospital, be it private or government, should deny admission to a patient suffering from dengue.
Also, with dengue cases assuming alarming proportions, the Delhi government has also ordered all government hospitals to open 'Fever Clinics' at their premises to detect the disease at the primary level.
As per the municipal corporation's fresh data released yesterday, 613 cases of dengue have been reported in the last one week, and a total 1,872 patients have tested positive for the vector borne disease till September 12.
