Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Acting Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary on Tuesday announced the squad for the one-off Test match against Afghanistan, while also declaring Ajinkya Rahane as the captain of the team for the same.
India's regular skipper, Virat Kohli, is giving miss to the Test match as he will be playing county cricket in June.
He has been signed by Surrey club and will also be missing two T20Is against Ireland.
The squads for India's series' against Ireland and England were also announced with Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Siddharth Kaul given a call-up for the limited-overs fixtures against England, while Royal Challengers Bangalore's 18-year-old Washington Sundar will also feature in the limited overs matches against Ireland and England.
The one-off Test, scheduled to be played in Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, between 14 and 18 June, well after the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League is wrapped up, will be a historic one as Afghanistan will feature in their first ever Test match.
After facing off with Afghanistan, India will travel to the United Kingdom where they will start their campaign with a two-match Twenty-20 International (T-20I) series against Ireland.
The Malahide Cricket Club ground, near capital Dublin, is set to host both the matches, scheduled for June 27 and 29.
India will then play England in three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T-20Is and five Tests, with a chance to exact some revenge after their failures in the 2014 tour, where despite taking the lead at Lords in the five-match Test series India succumbed to a 3-1 bashing.
