Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited drought-affected villages in Maharashtra's Aurangabad District on Tuesday, and admitted that the situation is quite difficult.

But, he added that the Congress-led state government is making all efforts to reduce the misery of the people of the region.

"It's a very difficult situation, but CM Sahab is trying his best. I think there is a decent amount of work being done," he told mediapersons here.

Gandhi also launched a frontal attack on the opposition, and accused them of disrupting parliamentary proceedings.

"Opposition has been holding our Parliament for a very long time now because they know that schemes are very very beneficial and helpful to the people and to the Congress Party. It is not the kind of politics we appreciate, but we can't choose our opposition unfortunately," he said.

The Congress vice-president, who interacted with affected farmers and labourers during his daylong trip, also had a conversation with a local boy here and asked him about his future ambitions.

Gandhi was accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and other local officials during his visit to the drought-hit villages here.

The Congress vice-president was earlier scheduled to visit Maharashtra on Monday. His visit was, however, postponed due to the audacious attack by the Naxals on Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh Saturday in which 28 people were killed, including PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, Congress leader Mahendra Karma and ex-MLA Uday Mudliyar.
