Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Tuesday described her brother and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi as a futuristic leader and possessing the same visionary streak as their father and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

"You will know that Rajiv Gandhi was a visionary and he used to think how to connect Amethi with rest of the world. He has created infrastructure like BHEL and HAL factories, which were created for long-term purposes. Rahul Gandhi, who is my brother, also has a futuristic vision so that the area becomes developed," Priyanka said at a public meeting in Amethi.

Priyanka without naming anyone attacked the opposition candidates from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kumar Vishwas and Smriti Irani Malhotra for criticising Rahul Gandhi.

"You will see other party candidates coming here and saying that nothing has happened, spreading all lies. They do not understand how the region was developed and what problems had to be overcome in order to complete various projects. First, you should think of those who come here, what will they be able to produce. It is very easy to criticise. Just realise what is their ideology, they make tall promises, it was this party which opposed the introduction of computers, saying people will not get jobs, and they used to slang Rajiv Gandhi with the tag 'Computer Boy'," Priyanka said.

"Earlier, they opposed and ridiculed him for bringing in telecommunication. Hasn't that helped you or not? Now, their big leaders make fun of Rahul Gandhi. Had Rajiv Gandhi not had the vision, this would not have been possible. Sometimes, they term Rahul as Shahzada, sometimes they equate him with a standup-comedian. Then, I start to think, that the person (Modi) who is aspiring to be the next prime minister, why is he making such childish statements. He (Modi) is not behaving like a prime ministerial aspirant should," Priyanka added.

She also credited Rahul Gandhi with bringing the White Revolution to the region.

"You will know that there is not a single home in Amethi that does not produce milk. Therefore, a White Revolution has been brought. Truckloads of milk are being sent to various parts of this country," Priyanka remarked.

She also talked about the proposed food park that is set to change the lives of people here.

"You must heard about the proposed food park coming up in Jadgishpur, which will help the farmers, there will be cold storage that will preserve the produce. Fursatganj Airport has been developed so that it can allow big planes to fly down which will help business," Priyanka said.

Priyanka talked about the highways and the railway lines that have been created for the betterment of this place.

"There are seven national highways which act like a web that connects through arterial roads with the rest of India. At least twenty new trains have been initiated," Priyanka said.

She also pointed out the opposition's obstructionist tactics to deny power to the area via an Allahabad High Court ruling.

Priyanka said several educational institutions have come up here. In every block, Kasturba Women schools has been opened, three model schools has been opened," she added.

Congress leaders had sacrified to keep the nation intact, she claimed.

"Congress leaders have sacrificed to protect the sanctity of this nation. Utilise the power of your vote. Askleaders who seek votes what their development plans are for you. This time give your vote to protect this country. It is from this constituency that the voice must arise for bringing in transparent politics," Priyanka added.
