Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has firmly dismissed former IPL boss Lalit Modi's allegations that he has accepted bribes from a real estate tycoon, insisting that he was never involved in any wrongdoing and is determined to take legal actions against the same.
"In the wake of recent media reports about me, I would like to make my fans around the world aware and clear the air that I have always played the game in right spirit and with utmost integrity," Raina said in a statement issued by sports management firm Rhiti Sports, with which he is associated.
"I have never been involved in any wrong doing and all allegations against me are false. Playing cricket is my passion for whichever team I have represented. I'm also figuring out my legal rights to take the right steps ahead in this matter," he added.
The former IPL Commissioner had earlier alleged that two leading Indian cricketers (Ravindra Jadeja) along with a West Indian player (Dwayne Bravo) had been bribed by an Indian businessman, who is also a bookmaker.
Modi, who now resides in London, claimed that he had informed about the issue while writing a letter to International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO David Richardson in June 2013.
Although the ICC had confirmed receiving the letter, they gave the cricketers a clean chit citing lack of evidence.
Subsequently, the BCCI followed the suit by giving them a clean chit.
