Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has chaired a meeting of the National Implementation Committee on Commemorations here to discuss the commemoration schedule for the year.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for Culture Mahesh Sharma and Nagaland Governor P B Acharya were also present among others.

The commemoration date and venue of the birth centenary of Rani Gaidinliu, the 150th birth anniversary of Lala Lajpat Rai, the 200th birth anniversary of Tatya Tope, the 475th birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap, the birth centenary of Bhisham Sahni and 500 years of the return of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to Vrindavan were discussed during the meeting.

Singh said these great personalities had enriched the history and culture of the country and added that the message of these commemorations should not be limited to local areas, but should be spread across the country as well as the whole world.

He further said that commemoration ceremonies should be held in New Delhi and in the birth places of these personalities.

The celebrations of these six commemorations will begin in a phased manner between July to October this year.

Jaitley suggested the setting up of auditoriums and theatres at the birth places of these great personalities to create permanent symbols of remembrance.
