Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday appealed to all the state governments to give as much relief as possible to the farmers.

Singh said due to the federal structure of the country it was not possible for the Centre to give funds directly to the farmers but through state governments. He appealed to all the political parties to join hands in giving relief to the distraught farmers.

Singh also asked the state government officials to visit farmers and help them as a humanitarian gesture and do justice to the needy.

Singh, who visited the rain-hit areas of Uttar Pradesh to assess the crop loss to the farmers, while interacting with the farmers in Saharanpur, Badaun and Kanpur districts said he was not there to blame anyone or criticize the state government.

The Home Minister said he was not visiting the rain-hit areas for the sake of doing politics but that he is really concerned about their problems.

"The Prime Minister is very concerned with the problems being faced by the farmers. We have already decided that those farmers, whose 33 percent crops were damaged, will be given full compensation," he added.
