External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday tied Rakhi to Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu on the occasion of Rakshabandhan.

Speaking on the occasion, both greeted the nation on auspicious occasion.

"Indian traditions and culture are famous in the entire world. I would like to wish that we all work together and make India grow. I would like to wish entire India on this festival of Rakhi," said Swaraj.

"Today is the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan. Sisters ties Rakhi to brothers and wish for their long life and well being. I wish the entire nation on this occasion," said Naidu

Rakshabandhan is a Hindu festival that celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters.

Rakshabandhan is primarily observed in India, Mauritius and parts of Nepal. It is also celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs in parts of Pakistan and by some people of Indian origin around the world.

On Rakshabandhan, sisters tie a rakhi (sacred thread) on her brother's wrist. This symbolizes the sister's love and prayers for her brother's well-being, and the brother's lifelong vow to protect her.
