Red Hot Chili Peppers' Super Bowl performance was mimed

American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers have revealed that their performance at the Super Bowl was pre-recorded.

Band's bassist Flea has said on their official website that 'Rock and Roll Hall of Fame' members pretended to play along to a pre-taped track of their hit song 'Give It Away' during Super Bowl halftime show, while Anthony Kiedis sang live, the New York Post reported.

It was observed that Flea and his bandmates weren't plugged in during their performance at the MetLife Stadium.

The 51-year-old musician said that the request had come from NFL officials who felt it was too difficult to pull off a completely live performance due to potential sound issues and the band felt that the opportunity was too big to turn down.

He added that after checking with fellow musicians and consulting with headliner Bruno Mars, they decided it would be "a surreal-like, once in a life time crazy thing to do".

However, it wasn't revealed if Mars also recorded instrumental tracks for his appearance and the 'Just The Way You Are' hitmaker's haven't commented on it yet.
