Rooney to tell Moyes he wants to stay at Man U

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney is reportedly set to tell new boss David Moyes that he wants to stay at Old Trafford, after both of them return from holiday and head straight for talks that will decide the England player's future at the club.

According to the Mirror, although Rooney did harbour some frustration about his constantly changing role in the team following Robin van Persie's arrival at the club, he, however, will make it clear to Moyes that at no time towards the end of last season did he tell former boss Sir Alex Ferguson that he wanted a transfer.

The report further said that Rooney's message will be that he believes Ferguson's retirement can give him a new lease of life at the club he has now served for nine years, adding that he feels that his message to the Scot was misunderstood and that he has no desire to leave United.

According to the report, Moyes will then be faced with the first major decision of his United reign - whether to accept Rooney's explanation or to agree with his predecessor that the time is ripe to cash in on a player who has two years left on his contract.

Moyes' six-year contract does not start until next Monday, but he has made deciding the future of Rooney his top priority, with Chelsea and Arsenal waiting to pounce if he decides that the No.10 is surplus to requirements, the report added.
