Royal baby's christening to be celebrated with new 50,000-pound coins

Prince George's christening, which will be held on 23rd October at the Chapel Royal in St. James' Palace, will be marked by the release of new British coins, including a gold "Kilo" coin worth 50,000 pounds.

The Royal mint, the body in charge of manufacturing coins in the UK, had recently debuted the special coins, which went into production in Wales, the Daily Express reported.

The prince's parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, had given their approval to the nine designs created by sculptor John Bergdahl.

The cheapest of the limited issue coins is the "five pound Crown" coin made of cupro-nickel alloy worth 13 pounds.

Other coins are made of silver, gold and platinum and start at 80 pounds for a sterling silver five pound coin.

The design has been written with the lily font, which is traditionally used for royal christenings, and lilies and harp-playing cherubs border the writing with the Queen's motto - 'Dieu Et Mon Droit' (God And My Right).
