Australia displayed their complete superiority over West Indies by thrashing the tourists by an innings and 212 runs on day three of the first Test in Hobart.

The hosts enforced the follow-on after dismissing the West Indies for 223 in their first innings at the Bellerive Oval within five overs of play in the morning session, which left the tourists with a first innings deficit of 360 runs.

Australia continued to expose the West Indies' batting frailties as they skittled the tourists for 148 in their second innings. Kraigg Brathwaite (94) was the only batsmen to provide resistance.

Earlier, Darren Bravo led the resistance by scoring a fluent 108 in the first innings.

Paceman James Pattinson, who remained wicketless in the first innings, claimed five for 27 and received able support from Josh Hazlewood, who took overall eight wickets in the match.

Australia accumulated a mammoth 583 for four before declaring their innings, thanks to a world record fourth wicket stand of 449 between Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh, the Guardian reported.

Voges was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant unbeaten knock of 269.

With the win, Australia have taken a 1-0 in the three-match series and will take play next two matches in Melbourne and Sydney.
