Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Thursday moved the Jaipur High Court against the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Ordinance 2017 of the Rajasthan Government.
Speaking to media here, Pilot said, "The Rajasthan Government and Chief Minsiter Vasundhara Raje are stubborn upon putting in place a legislation that will give a legal protection to all the corruption in Rajasthan and will gag the media. She has relented by asking the bill to be referred to a selected committee because of the Opposition's pressure".
He added that he has given a writ petition to the High Court to intervene and declare this ordinance invalid because it is against the Constitutional Article 14 and 19.
"We believe that the legislation should be withdrawn. Today, the law in Rajasthan is the same black law against which all of us are fighting. The government of Rajasthan is being very arrogant that they want the black law to stay and lapse in two months," Pilot said.
He added that he is hopeful that justice will be given by the High Court.
On Monday, the Congress opposed the bill when it was tabled in the Rajasthan Assembly.
After the Assembly session was adjourned for the day, Pilot and several party leaders were detained by the Rajasthan police on Monday for taking out a march against the bill.
According to the ordinance, serving and former judges, magistrates and public servants in the state cannot be investigated for on-duty alleged offences without the prior sanction of the Rajasthan Government.
In addition, it seeks to bar the media from reporting on accusations till the sanction is obtained and to provide with 180-day immunity to the public servants.
