14-times Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras has expressed his disappointment over the decline of American men's tennis, saying that it would take time to witness resurgence in American tennis.
American legend Sampras, who once dominated the tennis with compatriot Andre Agassi, said that it has been a long time since anyone from their country dominated the game. He believes that they are not churning out enough talented players with potential, in view of game becoming more international, Sport24 reported.
Sampras further said that he hopes this phase wouldn't last too long, adding that the big three Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal are likely to dominate the game next year as well.
However, he also cited Grigor Dimitrov as a promising player to watch out for, adding that he is a talented player who is showing signs but needs to learn techniques to topple top seeds.
Playing for Indian Aces, Sampras was defeated by fellow veteran Australia's Pat Rafter in the third leg of the new IPTL in New Delhi on Sunday.
