The Supreme Court on Friday upheld conviction of former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case.
In a sigh of relief to Rathore, the apex court also reduced his sentence from one and half years to the sentence already undergone.
On August 20, 1990, Rathore, who was also the president of the Haryana Lawn Tennis Association (HLTA), had molested 14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra, a budding tennis player.
The incident took place in the HLTA office in Panchkula.
Post the incident, Ruchika was expelled from school on grounds of 'indiscipline' following her allegations against Rathore.
Ruchika had ended her life in December 28, 1993 by consuming poison.
