Scholes backs Van Gaal to turn things around at Man U despite faltering new system

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes does not think that his former club's new system is working, but has backed new boss Louis van Gaal to turn it around.

United have suffered a nightmare start to their Premier League season losing on opening day to Swansea City, drawing at Sunderland before being humbled and humiliated by MK Dons in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Van Gaal's newly implemented 3-4-1-2 formation has come in for its fair share of criticism in his side's early-season faltering, and Scholes agrees that it isn't the way to go, The Mirror reported.

Scholes said that the biggest problem of all for United is that three men at the back does not seem to be working for them yet, and added that at the moment the squad looks like they are going to concede goals too often.

Despite the inauspicious start Scholes still believes that Van Gaal is the man to turn things around at Old Trafford.

The former midfielder said that Van Gaal says it will take three months for the players to adapt to the way that he wants things done, and added that he hopes it will be the case, because at the moment it looks like it could take a lot longer.

Scholes also said that there won't be easy quick fix solutions but he is hopeful such an experienced and world-class manager is capable of rebuilding and reshaping this United team.
