A joint operation carried out by security forces and the administration on Tuesday saw hundreds of acres of illegal marijuana crops destroyed in the Jarulbachai district of West Tripura.

Acting on a tip-off, the Border Security Force, state police, excise department and state administration found illegal marijuana cultivations across the hillocks. The forces destroyed and burnt the illegal plants.

According to reports, the marijuana, which was bound for Bangladesh, amounted to over Rs one crore.

The BSF has seized Rs 14 crores worth of contraband bound for Bangladesh from Tripura as of October 2014.
